The course comprises learning of the use of different massage techniques, business design, professional standards and the principles that help athletes prepare and recover. Complete this internationally recognised course and pursue an exciting career as a sports masseuse; delivering treatment plans, assessments and providing massage treatments across a range of sports at all levels.

No prior qualifications are required to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy. However, you will need to be 16 years of age or over.

The qualification consists of five units, specific to a different element of knowledge required for sports massage.

Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage – Understand the muscles, joints, skin, nervous system, lymphatic system and how the body responds to massage.
Unit 2: Principles of Health and Fitness – Understand the effects of exercise on the body, knowledge of the principles of training, nutrition and how this can affect health.
Unit 3: Soft Tissue Dysfunction – What is soft tissue dysfunction? How can it be treated? Learn about soft tissue repair and the process causes of soft tissue dysfunction and the inflammation process.
Unit 4: Professional Practice in Sports Massage – Explore the different sports massage policies and legal requirements, alongside the scope of practice within sports massage, client’s data protection and what it takes to set up a massage business.
Unit 5: Sports Massage Treatments – This topic covers the history of massage and the development of treatments. It also covers massage treatments pre-event, post-event, maintenance massage, massage techniques, client screening and devising treatment plans.

The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy Course part-time learning method can see you qualify in just 8-10 weeks. The qualification is assessed via coursework, treatment plans and practical assessments that are completed on your training days. The course involves completion of the portfolio, case study and practical application assessment to complete all 5 units of the sports massage qualification.

This includes face to face practical workshop training, putting into practice sports massage techniques and client assessment methods.

No, Physiotherapist is a protected title so you should call yourself a Sports Masseuse.

Entire Training would not recommend performing sports massage treatments on clients that are injured and would advise that you refer them to a qualified Physiotherapist. Once they have completed their treatment with the Physiotherapist, you can then offer sports massage sessions.

You can become qualified in sports massage therapy within 8 weeks. Essentially it comes down to how committed and dedicated you are to complete all the necessary portfolio work, the practical training element is completed within an intensive weekend either Face-to-Face or Online dependant on what learning option you choose. For Face-to-Face you will complete your training and assessment in the same weekend. For Online you will complete the training over a full weekend and then submit a video assessment.

• Clinical issues, safe and effective sports massage treatment, sports massage law and regulation, professionalism and ethics related to sport massage. • Explore advanced anatomy and physiology and how it responds to applied sports massage. • Learn how to apply a range of sports massage techniques, which will include the following: palpation, basic strokes. • Knowledge and understanding surrounding the neuromuscular and soft tissue mobilisation techniques, linking to muscle energy techniques and common frictions. • Knowledge linked to subjective and ROM assessment, treatment planning and appropriate record keeping. • Investigate a range of soft tissue damage and repair, injury occurrence and appropriate treatment options.

You will receive a recognised Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy for Sports (RQF).

Once you have signed up and secured your place on the sport massage course, your learning will then begin straight away and you will then have your first contact with your assigned sports massage personal tutor. From there you will both agree a learning plan which will suit your individual needs. The course dates available on the Entire Training's website highlight the workshop weekends you will need to attend throughout your learning.
