The Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification will cover a wide range of topics that will allow all our learners to gain the knowledge required to be a successful gym instructor.
The course is made up of 6 units; each unit covers a specific topic area including anatomy and physiology, supporting clients, health and safety, principles of exercise, planning gym based exercise and delivering gym based exercise.
Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology
This Unit will cover and in depth knowledge into the human body and how it works. The unit is split into systems of the human body. The circulatory system, respiratory system, endocrine system, muscular system and skeletal system are just some of the topics covered in this unit. This will allow you to understand the human body during exercise.
Unit 2: Supporting clients
This unit will look at a number of factors when working with a client in the gym. This will cover motivation, goal setting, client analysis, barriers to exercise and building effective relationships. This unit will help analyse and interpret client information and allow you to support the individual you will be working with.
Unit 3: Health and Safety
This unit will cover the importance of health and safety and legislations within the fitness environment. It will look at assessing risks, outlining to clients the health and safety protocols of the gym. This is an important unit in understanding the roles and responsibilities within the gym environment.
Unit 4: Principles of exercise
The Level 2 Gym Instructor course covers a range of topic areas related to exercise; it will include nutrition, special population information, health assessments and common causes of health related issues. Also looking at the role of the human body in exercise and how it responds.
Unit 5: Planning gym based exercise
This unit is looking at how to plan a session for a client based on their individual goals. Exercise frequency, intensity, timing and type of training are incorporated to produce a plan. This unit will be based on a case study of a client so you will design a session plan for this individual.
Unit 6: Delivering gym based exercise
This unit is based on practical application when attending the course teaching days you will cover instructing style, client assessment during exercise, technique correction, programme design and slef evaluation and feedback. This unit will be based on your ability to demonstrate and teach exercises in the lift list from the course.
